Ohio Senate Passes Brenner Bill Streamlining Wildlife Control

COLUMBUS—The Ohio Senate passed Senate Bill 152, sponsored by Senator Andrew Brenner (R-Delaware), to allow employees at a wildlife rehabilitation facility to receive a limited license to euthanize animals received into the facility.
"Rather than having to wait on an overwhelmed veterinarian, this bill allows a wild animal rehabilitation facility to have access to medications necessary for the humane euthanasia of severely injured or diseased wildlife," said Brenner. "This legislation ensures that these facilities across Ohio are able to best care for our native wildlife. I'm grateful to my colleagues for supporting this needed legislation."
Senate Bill 152 adds wild animal rehabilitation facilities to the list of entities permitted access to medications to humanely euthanize animals that are unable to be rehabilitated. The bill requires these facilities to comply with all the safety standards that other entities with access to euthanasia medications must follow. One such requirement being to maintain personnel who have completed a euthanasia technician certification course.
The bill now heads to the Ohio House for further consideration.
