Parents' Bill of Rights Heads to Governor
COLUMBUS— House Bill 8, the Parents' Bill of Rights, is heading to the Governor's desk. State Senator Andrew Brenner (R-Delaware) supports this legislation.
House Bill 8 reinforces parents' fundamental ability to be involved in their children's education. It requires public schools to adopt a policy on parental notification on student academic, mental and physical health and well-being, and instructional materials with sexuality content. During committee, the bill was amended with Senate Bill 293 which requires school districts to adopt policies allowing students to be excused from school to attend a released time course in religious instruction.
"Parents deserve to understand what is happening with their child during the school day," said Brenner. "I am glad to see this piece of legislation make it across the finish line and allow families to choose what is best for them and their family."
